Peer Tutoring for first-year students

When you arrive at university for your first year of higher education, you may feel bewildered by the diversity of activities and the size of the campus. It’s easy to miss out on the important information you need to understand the university system. The Peer Tutoring program helps get you off to a good start in your new life as a student, thanks to support from student tutors.

What is the Peer Tutoring program at the UBE?

The Peer Tutoring program enables first-year undergraduates to discover the campus, its various facilities and services. As their first semester gets underway, first-year students are accompanied by peer tutors, students who have been enrolled in the same course program for several years, and who are responsible for welcoming and guiding them into the new academic year.

Why take part in peer tutoring?

This compulsory back-to-school event helps new students to settle in, familiarize themselves with the university environment and meet new friends.

When and how does the tutoring program take place?

The program takes place during the first two weeks of September. New students in small groups are guided by their tutor, who answers their questions about how the university is organized, what it’s like to be a student, working methods, needs, environment, etc. A tour of the campus is also organized to help them discover the places to go (lecture halls, cafeterias, restaurants, cultural venues) and services on offer (sports, health, student and community life, PFVU support services, SEFCA, etc.).

Every year, around a hundred tutors welcome the 4,000 or so first-year students enrolled at the university’s campuses in Burgundy (Dijon, Nevers, Le Creusot). The aim of this not-to-be-missed event is to facilitate their introduction to the university and to familiarize them with their new life as students in the best possible conditions.
