High-Level Artists

University students can, under certain conditions, obtain the status of high-level artists (EAHN). Once accorded, this specific status recognizes and enhances the student’s artistic career if the artistic activity is carried out on a quasi-professional level.

The special status includes adjustments to timetables, the possibility of making up exams and/or other personalized support to reconcile students’ artistic practice with their academic obligations.

Who can apply?

This status is open to all students with a professional artistic practice. You must submit an application, which will be assessed by a commission.

Musicians, singers, actors, visual artists, graphic designers, photographers, etc. may be considered as high-level artists. Note that circus arts and dance are currently covered by the PEPS (Pôle d’excellence des pratiques sportives).

Other specific situations may qualify for this status. To check whether you are eligible, please contact the university’s Culture Cluster.

EAHN status is awarded for one academic year, by the AHN (Artiste de Haut Niveau) Commission, after review of the application and supporting documents.

The student must reapply annually to the commission for the status of “high-level artist.” If this condition is not met, the status will not be maintained.

The application must include:

  • A cover letter outlining the artistic project and explaining the applicant’s approach;
  • A Curriculum Vitae;
  • Copy of student card (or proof of enrolment);
  • All documents attesting to the candidate’s artistic level (diplomas, certificates, etc.);
  • A digital or paper portfolio presenting the student’s project and activities;
  • An attestation of the candidate’s hours of practice, provided by a manager of the artistic structure to which the student is attached;
  • Letter(s) of recommendation, if any.

Calendar
Application deadline: October 15 of each academic year.
