Cultural differences
Learn more about the culture of your destination country
To make your international experience a success, prepare for your mobility by becoming aware of cultural differences and familiarizing yourself with the environment in which you’ll be living.
Follow the workshops organized by students in the English-speaking Intercultural management master’s program at the UBE, which are great opportunities to learn more about other cultures and practice your English (as exchanges are conducted in English).
Topics covered include :
- sensitivity to cultural differences;
- cultural differences in the workplace;
- how to overcome culture shock when abroad;
- different concepts in different cultures: values, humor, stereotypes, table manners, food etc.;
- exchanges on cultural experiences and more!
Workshop organization :
- workshops can be followed in the first or second semester of the academic year;
- the weekly one-hour meetings usually take place during the lunch break, on the Dijon campus or online via Teams or Zoom;
- participation is free and open to all UBE students;
- registration is carried out via an online form that will be e-mailed to your etu.ube.fr e-mail address;
- students who have attended the workshops will receive a certificate from the Languages and Communication faculty confirming their participation.

Transversal teaching units (UE) give you the opportunity to enhance your practices, gain new experience and earn extra ECTS credits.
The Interculturality transversal UE is particularly useful if you want to improve a foreign language and/or learn more about other cultures: it enables you to take free foreign language classes at the Language Centre and gain experience working as a native speaker tutor in an international context.
Find your buddy thanks to the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) InsiDijon student association: exchange and improve your foreign language skills with an international student currently enrolled at the UBE and discover their culture before you go abroad.
Create your profile on the Buddy System website to be put in touch with an international student.

Co-financed by the European Union.
Reading the experiences and reactions of French students who have gone abroad and international students who have come to France can help you understand cultural differences and get to know the country where you are going to study or do your internship.
Don’t hesitate to consult a number of testimonial sites :
- testimonials from UBE students (French and international) who have gone abroad on exchange or for an internship: interviews, photo stories, videos;
- testimonials from international students who have come to study or do an internship at the Université Bourgogne Europe ;
- the experiences of young people who have gone abroad or come to Burgundy on the regional international mobility platform Agitateurs de mobilité;
- E-ambassadeurs blogs written by international students in France, who share their experiences and tackle a range of themes, all based on their own experiences: studies, accommodation, the French language, travel, leisure activities, money.
