Doctoral student mobility schemes
Doctoral student mobility schemes
You’ll need to attend courses, conferences, colloquia, etc.
You will be required to participate exclusively under Erasmus+ agreements negotiated in advance by the UBE (allowing for mobility at the doctoral level), depending on your field of study.
Find out more about the procedure on the Studies abroad page.
- You may be eligible for an Erasmus+ study grant: for full details of eligibility and amounts, go to the Financial aid page, Erasmus+ study grant section.
You must work in a company, research institute, laboratory (including a higher education establishment), association, organization or other relevant workplace abroad.
An agreement between the UBE and the host organization is not compulsory.
You can benefit from the Erasmus+ internship grant – for full details about eligibility and information on how to apply, go to the Financial aid page – Erasmus+ internship grant section.
Doctoral students employed by the UBE (doctoral contract, ATER, etc.) can also participate in Erasmus+ staff mobility schemes, for teaching or staff training purposes.
Find out more on the intranet.
The usual rules and procedures apply (deadlines, documents to be submitted, etc.). The procedures are the same for all applicants, from undergraduates to PhD students.
Funding will only be issued within a single academic year: it is therefore not possible to stay from February to February of the following year, for example. If you are leaving for two academic years, you will need to submit two separate applications.
In the case of a co-tutored thesis: the Erasmus+ Charter prohibits mobile students from paying registration fees at the host institution, and stipulates that they must be registered at their home institution. Your situation will be examined in the light of these rules.
In the case of multiple mobilities: the Erasmus+ Charter authorizes a student to benefit from an Erasmus+ grant for a maximum of 12 months of mobility per study cycle. Make sure you don’t accumulate more than 12 months of funded mobility during your PhD, if you make several 6-month stays, for example.
Grants will be awarded subject to the availability of Erasmus+ funds.
Any student enrolled in a PhD program at the UBE is eligible for an Erasmus+ mobility grant, regardless of nationality.
However, there are certain conditions that may make a mobility project ineligible under Erasmus+ regulations.
- If the mobility takes place in a non-eligible structure: i.e., European institutions, and any organization financed by European funds.
- If the duration of the mobility or cumulative mobilities exceeds 12 months during the Doctorate.
- If the Erasmus+ mobility file is incomplete, or if it is submitted outside the application deadlines (to the UBE and/or the partner).
- If the doctoral student has already paid or is due to pay annual tuition fees at the host partner university.
If any one of these cases applies to you, you will not be eligible for an Erasmus+ grant, but you can still carry out your PhD mobility project outside the Erasmus+ framework.
