Stéphen Liégeard (1830-1925)

Stéphen Liégeard (1830-1925)

Doctor of the Faculty of Law of Dijon, lawyer in 1854, he entered the prefecture (Daudet was inspired by him when writing “Le Sous-préfet aux champs”) and then became a deputy (1867-70), before becoming a lawyer again, in Dijon, where he lived lavishly. As president of the committee set up for this purpose, he did his utmost to ensure that the three faculties of Dijon would become a university. When this happened at the end of 1896, he experienced a real triumph during the celebrations that took place in January 1897.
