Serge Lemoine (born 1943), art historian

A student in Dijon, Lemoine worked successively as an assistant, assistant lecturer and lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities then held roles as a professor at the Ecole du Louvre and lecturer at the University of Paris IV. Artistic advisor to the rector, notably for projects involving the 1% of construction budgets allotted to artistic works and for public commissions, the University of Burgundy is indebted to him for the first works of art to adorn the Montmuzard campus. In 1986 he was chosen as director of the Grenoble museum and remained in that role until 2001. He was president of the Musée d’Orsay until 2008 and received the Pompidou Prize in 2000.
