Louis Renault (1843-1918), legal scholar

He studied at the Faculty of Law in Dijon, where he taught for some time, before entering the Faculty of Law in Paris (substitute in 1873; professor in 1881). His work made him a specialist in international law, earning him a position as Jurisconsult at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a permanent seat on the Court of Arbitration in The Hague. For his role in conflict prevention, he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1907.
