Charles de Brosses, called the President de Brosses (1709-1777)

Born in Dijon, he entered the Jesuit College of the city and then the Faculty of Law, which had just opened. At the age of 21, he was appointed Councillor to the Parliament of Burgundy, where he became Président à mortier and then First President. Interested in a vast range of subjects, he published many works, among which his Histoire des navigations aux terres australes, a Traité de la formation mécanique des langues, as well as the posthumous Lettres d’Italie.
