Albert Mathiez (1874-1932), historian

Brilliant studies led this son of Franc-Comtois farmers to the ÉNS. In 1911, he joined the University of Besançon as Professor of History, then joined the University of Dijon, where he remained from 1919 to 1926, before leaving for the Sorbonne. During his time in Dijon, he published his Histoire de la Révolution française (3 volumes, 1922), an essential work that reinterpreted the Revolution in the light of his left-wing commitments. An amphitheater bears his name.
