Max Milner (Maximilien, known as Max) (1923-2008)

This professor of French literature, who spent most of his career in Dijon, was one of the foremost specialists in the Romantic period and the 20th century. After a remarkable thesis (Le Diable dans la littérature française de Cazotte à Baudelaire, published in 1960), he published a number of works in which the study of literature drew on his psychoanalytical expertise (La Fantasmagorie, 1983; “On est prié de fermer les yeux: le regard interdit, 1991).
