Gaston Roupnel (1871-1946), historian

Gaston Roupnel (1871-1946), historian

He was a student in Dijon from 1892 to 1895 before continuing his studies at the Sorbonne. He taught in high schools and then, from 1922, was in charge of a course created for him at the Faculty of Letters of Dijon before becoming a professor. The novelist (the 1910 Nono narrowly missed out on the Goncourt prize) and the philosopher (Siloë, 1927) have been forgotten, but he is remembered as the founder of rural history thanks to his Histoire de la campagne française (1932).  An amphitheater is named after him.
