Gaston Bachelard (1884-1962), philosopher

A teacher for many years at the school in Bar-sur-Aube, he entered the Faculty of Letters in 1930 before moving to the Sorbonne in 1940. During his stay in Dijon, his work changed direction. Until La Formation de l’esprit scientifique (1938), he devoted himself to the epistemology of science; but with La Psychanalyse du feu (1938), he turned to the imagination of poets in his work on the four elements.  An amphitheater is named in his honor.
