Lucien Febvre (1878-1956), historian

Holder of the agrégation in history and alumnus of the Ecole Normale Supérieure, he defended a thesis on Philippe II and Franche-Comté in 1911. In 1914, he obtained the chair of History of Burgundy and Burgundian Art at the University of Dijon. After the war, he joined the University of Strasbourg in 1919, the Collège de France in 1930, and the EHESS in 1942, the year in which he published his essential work, Le Problème de l’incroyance au XVIe siècle, which contributed to a profound renewal in the writing of history.
