Georges-François Leclerc (1876-1947), anti-cancer research

A former intern at the Dijon hospitals and a member of the Dijon faculty starting in 1906, Georges-François Leclerc was appointed chair of the surgical clinic in 1922. He set up a radiotherapy department in Dijon, which was both a center for scientific studies on cancer and a center for diagnosis and treatment, the precursor of the current Georges-François Leclerc Center, a pioneer in cancerology in Burgundy. In 1921, he founded the Burgundy League against Cancer. He became a corresponding member of the Academy of Surgery and the International Society of Surgery.
