“Das Jahr in Dijon”

Among the texts in which former students of the University of Dijon evoke their stay here, it is important to mention, for historical reasons, the novel by Karl Adolf Mayer (1889-1957) entitled Das Jahr in Dijon, published in 1935 (reedited 1962). This young Sudeten, who arrived in Dijon in September 1913 and left in August 1914, tells the story of his year via an obviously autobiographical love story between a foreign student (Gerhard Prankh, Sudeten) and Jeanne, a young French woman.
