Analysis of the memory of neighbourhoods: collaboration signed between LIR3S and the municipality of Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy

LIR3S (Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire de Recherche ‘Sociétés, Sensibilités, Soin’) and the municipality of Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy have signed a CIFRE collaboration contract to analyse the memory of neighbourhoods.
In Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy, the HiLo, a future cultural memorial site planned for 2026-2027, will be dedicated to promoting the collective memory of the residents of working-class neighbourhoods. The aim of this collaboration will be to analyse the life paths of local residents and to understand why some people become involved in associations while others do not. To achieve this, Serge PAUGAM’s concepts of ‘social attachment’ and ‘social disqualification’ will be used, taking into account the social, political and cultural context.
This collaboration is part of a 3-year CIFRE (Convention Industrielle de Formation par la Recherche), for which the town of Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy has recruited Hugo FERIN, a doctoral student at the University of Lorraine. He will work in the LIR3S laboratory alongside Professor Hervé MARCHAL, a sociologist specialising in urban sociology.
The professor will be supported in his collaborative projects by SATT SAYENS, whose aim will be to provide an in-depth view of individuals and offer them services tailored to their needs.
