Stand Up for Science: UBE expresses its support for the collective commitment to academic freedom.

In response to the Stand Up for Science day initiated in the United States, mobilization actions took place on March 7th in every university city across France. The goal of these mobilizations was clear : to defend science and the humanities, academic freedom, and the University as pillars of our societies.

Science is based on a collective commitment to making the pursuit of truth a common goal. Its various disciplines, theories, and methods contribute to enlightening society, overcoming crises, and also training citizens in the practice of democracy as a pluralism of rationalities in debate, through the transmission of knowledge and the instruction of dissent.

In a tense international context where the University and Research are facing unprecedented attacks, particularly in the United States, l’Université Bourgogne Europe expresses its support for the demonstrations that took place on March 7th and reaffirms the indispensable role that science, knowledge, and learning play at the heart of our democratic societies.
